I’m in Wellington and was recently looking to purchase a hybrid from Auckland because of the wider range available. Best pre purchase inspector

I can recommend Carl from Incar Automotive for pre-purchase inspections, especially for EVs. I had seen his website when I started looking at cars and then got his details from the team at GVI again so contacted him through his website and he was onsite the very next day to do the inspection of a Nissan Leaf 2018. As we were doing a high voltage system and mechanical inspection, he contacted me once he had concluded that the battery etc were all in good order before starting the mechanical inspection, that was great as there would be no point in continuing if the battery etc were not up to scratch. The report and pictures he provided were so detailed and there was nothing missed, especially in comparison to the simple check list you get from AA and other inspections, and well worth the price. The items he identified were also passed onto the dealer who has come to party and will ensure everything is fixed before we pick up the vehicle, so I'm sure he saved us some money down the road when we found them eventually. The report also detailed things to look out for in the future which I’ve never had from an inspection before. If you want certainty around your purchase, then take advantage of Carl’s experience to help guide your decision.

I am the seller, and the buyer organised a prepurchase car inspection on my car. I was really impressed with how thorough Carl was when checking the car. He ran a very detailed hybrid battery diagnosis (with video proof), he also has a gadget for for every car part! I was so impressed. I remember a few years ago, I had organised an AA prepurchase inspection; when i compare the amount of details that these two companies checked, I highly recommend Incar Automotive Ltd. over AA. To have the peace of mind when buying a second hand car (especially through private selling), I strongly suggest that you talk to this guy before making your decision. This is a photo when Carl was running the battery test, he connected the pipe to use the AC to cool down the hybrid battery. It is really interesting to see.

I looked him up online and sent an email a few days later, late one evening, querying his services as it was close to Christmas. I got a phone call about ten minutes later! When I had found a suitable car after a second test drive, Carl was called to arrange a pre purchase inspection for me. Once completed, the report was sent, in the timeframe he said it would, in depth with all the checks you need and plenty of photos, of the car both inside and out, showing even minor imperfections (2013 car will not be perfect!), I purchased the car and would recommend Carl to anyone wanting a thorough PPI on a car. I paid $285 for a vehicle inspection with Incar Automotive, as I couldn't see the car myself. Regrettably, the inspection missed significant damage, including an ugly 5mm hole in the door trim, which I noticed soon after receiving the car. Incar admitted the mistake was "unacceptable," yet refused to refund the inspection fee, despite the repair costs exceeding the original fee. Choose someone else.

The inspection reports that Carl provided is the most detailed and comprehensive I ever seen. Really worth it!

Carl did a pre-purchase inspection on a Prado for us at short notice. This was important to us as we wanted it checked before the weekend as we wanted to purchase it asap. We were replacing a stolen car so we had been 1 car down. He couldn't have been more helpful.
