I was looking for a good mechanic to inspect a Mazda Axela and Carl had awesome reviews on Google. The cost was $165.. it may seem to be expensive although I went to the car dealership and Carl came in, he talked about the process and we basically did a test drive where he evaluated some points about the car. After the test drive he started looking the interior and exterior, plus checked many mechanical parts of the vehicle. This process took almost 2.5 hours and Carl was explaining everything that he found out. The final report is great in detail.. a good range of pictures from the car, plus a detailed written report about the things he has found, good and bad, what should be fixed and an explanation about all the process and technical information, so you can understand everything. Turns out the car was in a very good condition and Carl saved me some money by giving a small list of items to be changed before purchasing the vehicle. I already recommended Carl to a friend and if you are trying to find a good mechanic to inspect a vehicle.. Carl is the guy.

Carl was able to come the next day for the battery pre-purchase inspection for the Toyota Aqua Hybrid I was looking at. He not only gave the battery a very comprehensive test but also a quick check of the transmission, brakes and high voltage components under the bonnet. He emailed an in depth report the following day and charged a very reasonable rate for his services. He was very helpful with advice and explaining how things work as I hadn't driven a hybrid before. Although an older car the battery was in very good condition and therefore the fuel economy should be as expected. Being a Toyota I wasn't so worried about mechanical maintenance costs. I have bought the car and am very happy with it. I would highly recommend Carl.

The actual inspection took 2 hours and even the salesman commented on how thorough he is compared to everyone else. Everything is then summarised into a final report and Carl took my follow up phone call when I had questions. There were a few findings with the vehicle and Carl even offered to follow up the next day because he had another job at the same car yard and was going to be there anyway. I can recommend Carl from Incar Automotive for pre-purchase inspections, especially for EVs. I had seen his website when I started looking at cars and then got his details from the team at GVI again so contacted him through his website and he was onsite the very next day to do the inspection of a Nissan Leaf 2018. As we were doing a high voltage system and mechanical inspection, he contacted me once he had concluded that the battery etc were all in good order before starting the mechanical inspection, that was great as there would be no point in continuing if the battery etc were not up to scratch. The report and pictures he provided were so detailed and there was nothing missed, especially in comparison to the simple check list you get from AA and other inspections, and well worth the price. The items he identified were also passed onto the dealer who has come to party and will ensure everything is fixed before we pick up the vehicle, so I'm sure he saved us some money down the road when we found them eventually. The report also detailed things to look out for in the future which I’ve never had from an inspection before. I paid $285 for a vehicle inspection with Incar Automotive, as I couldn't see the car myself. Regrettably, the inspection missed significant damage, including an ugly 5mm hole in the door trim, which I noticed soon after receiving the car. Incar admitted the mistake was "unacceptable," yet refused to refund the inspection fee, despite the repair costs exceeding the original fee. Choose someone else.

Just had a pre-purchase inspection done by Carl on a 2017 Land Cruiser and am very impressed with how thorough and detailed his reports are. The 1st vehicle has an major issue, he stop the inspection immediately & did not charge a full payment. I choose option 2 EV inspection, however when he found a major issue with the vehicle he stop the inspection immediately. Brilliant service by Carl at Incar Automotive. I phoned him late on Monday and he had managed to inspect the car by Tuesday evening (due to a cancellation). By Thursday morning I received the detailed inspection report as well as dozens of photos of the vehicle and images and videos from his testing software, confirming that the car was in very good nick. I doubt there is another outfit in Auckland that can do as thorough a job as Carl, especially for EVs or hybrids. Highly recommended.

I think what Carl does is excellently thorough...just know that this is what you'll get...a very thorough report! I personally found it all a little too much to understand and come to a final decision on the car. This isn't really a critique, as who doesn't want a very thorough inspection!

I used Incar for a pre-purchase inspection of Prius plugin hybrid. Because the plugin has a bigger battery I needed to be confident that it was in good condition. Carl is the man! Rang up Carl on a Sunday to see if Carl could do a pre-purchase inspection ASAP as we desperately wanted to close the deal on a car before anyone else bought it. Despite some prior miscommunications of our own fault, Carl maintained the highest level of professionalism and went out of his way to re-arrange his busy schedule to accomodate us. Initially he said he was fully booked until Thursday, but on Monday (less than 24 hrs since I called) he found a way to do the inspection and we closed the deal with the seller on the same day. His report was extremely detailed and he provided hundreds of photos of the car's condition. I cannot speak highly enough about this man's professionalism, work ethic, and striving to produce the highest quality of service to his clients. And he's simply a good guy and let us know he's always open for any questions we might have. My mum was so impressed with him that we wanted to pay him an extra tip for his outstanding work (but was unsure if this was allowed under a business account). If you're looking for a pre-purchase inspection, this is the only company I can recommend. After looking around for other services, I found that other companies were not as comprehensive and lacked a few checks here and there (usually due to lacking necessary technology/equipment), which could be the difference between a good car and a lemon. And others like AA may be too focused on ticking boxes on their checklist and inspectors may not have the experience or willingness to let buyers know about problems that might not be on said checklist. I wanted a thorough inspection and full confidence in the used car I'd be buying from a private seller as they obviously have not obligations under the CGA, and Carl gave us just that. Top top stuff! Carl is simply amazing with his extensive inspection and reports. Purchased his top of the line EV/hybrid inspection and boy was it amazing. Every little detail about the car was put into a really consie report backed with heaps of pictures and videos. By the end of it I knew exactly how good the hybrid battery was, the paint job that was done on the car, and how hot/cold the climate controls in the car could get. 100/10 would definitely recommend Carl for any sort of pre purchase inspection. He's easy to reach to and responded promptly.

We were so impressed with our Battery Health Check from Carl at Incar Automotive for a hybrid car we were considering buying. We received a highly detailed summary report created from several pages of detailed data from multiple tests and 60+ detailed photos showing everything that was checked including the digital dashboard functions and 20+ thermal imaging pictures of the interior. If only we had known about Incar earlier, we would have definitely chosen to do a Pre-Purchase 360° Full Inspection with Carl. Unfortunately, we only heard about them after doing a Pre-purchase Inspection check with a much more well known company, where for the same price as Incar's Battery Health Check, all we received was a tick sheet of everything that was checked, a one sentence basic report summary with a couple of sentences on various aspects of the check and 7 photos. I can't recommend Incar highly enough for anyone wanting a thorough, detailed, in depth Pre-Purchase Inspection/Check.

Carl was actually out of Auckland when we first reached out for help regarding an EV we wanted to buy. The entire time Carl was away he still kept in contact with us with very helpful information for any questions we had. Used Incar Automotive due to stunning reviews and he didn't disappoint, the car from the dealer was 4.5 Japan import grade and Carl with a c found issues they needed to fix. Of course with it came a thorough test log, extensive pictures and videos and finally a summary of all of the car. The time and cost saved from the fix was alone was well worth the price for the inspection, not to mention the excellent and prompt responses to follow up questions from the report. The summary also detailed things that I should potentially watch out for while getting it serviced next, not just immediate or near term fixes. These things will likely be helpful for those buying while keeping longevity in mind. Afterwards, I went ahead with the purchase with a peace of mind. Carl over delivered by miles on his Hybrid battery test. Most importantly the test was thoroughly carried out and I'm happy with the results knowing Carl is such an expert in the field. Excellent. Carl was able to do a pre inspection with short notice and the report was great. Found some minor issues that wouldn't had been found with AA inspection. Car dealer was happy to resolve before car purchase.

Incar Automotive is simply the best pre-purchase inspection business around - no question about it. Carl spends several hours doing the inspection, takes literally hundreds of photos (I received nearly 500 photos), performs heaps of diagnostic tests, tests for head gasket leaks, scans the paintwork to find areas that have been repainted, uses thermal imaging…the list goes on. The report you receive is extremely clear, with items colour coded to reflect whether they are cosmetic points, defects needing repair or maintenance items that should be monitored. Carl also provides you with a wealth of diagnostic information about the car, as well as factsheets explaining what the reports mean. I’d recommend Incar Automotive if you’re just buying an ordinary petrol/diesel powered car, but particularly recommend Incar if you’re buying a hybrid or EV. Other pre-purchase inspection companies can’t test any of the high voltage components (including the high voltage battery), so if you get them to inspect a hybrid or EV they leave out a hugely important part. Alternatively, you have to get them to inspect the car, and then take it to a shop that specialises in hybrids and EVs to do the high voltage inspection, which is a total hassle (and some dealers won’t even let you take the car off their lot to do it, anyway!). Incar Automotive is fully mobile, so they can inspect all aspects of the vehicle (including the high voltage components) on-site, and do an extremely thorough job. The customer service is second to none. I texted Carl on the Sunday of a public holiday weekend and within 30 seconds to a minute later he’d texted me back to let me know he could do the inspection that Tuesday. Carl also prepares his reports overnight, so they’re in your inbox ready to read first thing in the morning. The pricing is also extremely reasonable. I simply can’t recommend Incar Automotive enough. If you’re buying a second hand vehicle, you have to get Carl from Incar Automotive to inspect it!

I was eyeing a Lexus hybrid. It would cost me quite a lot (for me at least) so I was super careful. No upfront deposit, only until I got a pre-purchase inspection from Carl. His detailed reports were full of images, videos and information (if you are nerd enough to understand), also including a conclusion about the car. I especially care most about its hybrid battery. I really trust Carl's report on hybrid battery because it shows multiple information about the battery such as diff voltage between cells and internal cell resistant. Everything turned out great and I'll be getting the car, knowing it is a good buy. So totally recommended and would use him another time. Oh, forgot to mention, I used his service before on a Camry hybrid. He stopped the inspection after finding out that the car has a bad hybrid battery and would cost me a lot downstream. That also save me from paying for further inspection. This shows his integrity which is rare these days. Remember folks, post-purchase inspection is a bad idea, pre-purchase inspection is a good idea and pre-purchase inspection by Incarautomotive is the best idea. This is the way!

I asked Carl to do one of his 'mid-level' ($335) inspections on a second-hand Prius Alpha. He found time to fit this in within two days, and provided an extremely thorough inspection report in the wee hours of the morning (note: Carl probably needs to sleep more). The report included literally hundreds of photos, separate reports on different car systems, and most usefully, a summary inspection report outlining his findings that highlighted a couple of very minor things that the dealer should sort out before we drove the car away. I've had several inspections done in the past by the AA and all of them were absolutely fine. Carl has done 2 inspections of hybrids for me. He was super-efficient, professional and reasonably priced, and provided incredibly detailed reports, including a video of the hybrid battery tests. He also went out of his way for me in his own time when I came back to him with further questions. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Amazing top-notch service by Carl! We texted on Sunday morning yesterday to check whether he is available in the next couple of days. After exchanging a couple of texts to provide the vendor's contact information, Carl confirmed he will conduct the inspection within an hour of our contact on a Sunday too! WOWZERS I've never had that level of service anywhere in NZ! We were expecting to wait at least a week before the inspection will be carried out - absolutely amazing! Within a couple hours, he had texted us back the general comments on the results and we've received the fully detailed inspection report (huuuuge amount of pictures & videos to review your vehicle) via email at 2.30AM last night! Carl is insanely thorough! I wanted to purchase a car from out-of-town and engaged Carl to do the inspection for me. He provided a very detailed report with lots of photos. He then got in touch to talk through the findings and explain the results of tests I wasn't familiar with. I then had the confidence to purchase it, despite having not seen it yet, and am very happy with the result. As an aside, the dealer I purchased from told me that he was so impressed with Carl's level of detail that he intends to use him for his next personal vehicle purchase.
